Kittens abandoned at a shelter!!
These adorable balls of fluff were left at an animal shelter
but animal shelters lack the the staff to monitor the kittens to ensure they are eating and drinking and
to play with these kittens to ensure that they are properly socialized. We need a foster home to provide the fun and a safe haven. Abbeycats provides the food and any veterinary care required. Please fill out a foster application if you can help.

As these kittens are quite young, we are also in need of donations for kitten milk replacement and canned food. You can donate directly to ACA by PayPal!

"Meet Bluebell"
A foster home has been found!!
Bluebell
is a stunning 7 month old Russian Blue-cross who came to ACA after being evacuated from the shelter because of lack of space. Bluebell has an exceptional personality and will follow you around like a puppy dog, just waiting to be picked up and carried around or played with. She is super-social is incredibly playful; she will actually even chase her own tail if she can’t find a toy close at hand! This lovely lady would do very well in a family with children, other cats or very attentive adults. Call today to meet Bluebell! May 2010 |
"Kittens Rescued!"
"NEWEST RESCUE!!"
A foster home has been found!!
Emergency Rescue!:
A municipal animal shelter received a call after hours. These wee ones were found cold & hungry with no signs of Mum
and were picked up and brought in. Realizing how young these babies were, the staff contacted ACA because they could not
provide the necessary care for these poor orphans. Only weeks old, these cuties require kitten milk replacer which is more
expensive than baby formula. We need people to help foster these kittens and
if you're not in a position to foster, please consider a small donation to help purchase KMR and kitten food.April 2010 |

"Meet Honeycomb! ~ has been adopted!!"
Honeycomb:
Honeycomb was rescued from an over crowded shelter. This soft, 8 month old beautiful young girl is so full of enthusiasm when a human
offers her affection! She purrs and wriggles and snuggles with excitement. She's very
social, friendly, and outgoing. When she was rescued and placed in a foster home, she quickly learned how to open the loose catch on the bedroom door so that she could explore her surroundings and make friends with the other cats in the house. This lovely
girl is so sweet, she's like sunshine and would brighten anyone's day. Call now to meet her! (416) 284-2140 March 2010 |

Persian/Himi mix: Casablanca is is a gorgeous young cream-colored Persian Cross who rescued just this morning from a Municipal animal shelter where she has lived for the past 10 days curled up in the corner of her cage, frightened by the bright lights and loud noises of the adoption room. Now safe in her foster home, this blue-eyed beauty is spayed and is waiting for that special someone to walk into her life and adopt her. Although quiet in her demeanor, this little lady is a true lap cat and likes to be rubbed on her tummy. "March 2010 Rescues! ~ Thank you for your help!" | As many of you know, most of our cats &
kittens come to us from overcrowded shelters where, due to overcrowding, cats are often only allowed to
stay for a few days before they are euthanized to make space for other abandoned pets. Working together
with a team of volunteers, Abbey Cats picks up these cats & kittens from the shelter, sometimes just
hours before they are set to be put down. The animals are moved into a foster home where there stay
until they are adopted.
Sadly, it is the most vulnerable of the animals that are euthanized first. Nursing and pregnant cats,
often not more than kittens themselves, are the first to be euthanized because of the extended length
of stay they require. These are friendly & healthy animals (almost always house cats), dumped in
boxes at the side of the road or outside the shelter in the middle of the night with the kittens,
sometimes only days or hours old. Calls to our organization have been flooding in over the past two
days from overcrowded shelters all over the GTA looking to evacuate pregnant cats and nursing mothers
and kittens from their facilities. With our foster homes currently at capacity already, we are once
again appealing to our supporters for your help.
If you have a spare room or a quiet place for one of these mommies to raise their
kittens, please consider fostering today. Remember, Abbey
Cats provides all food, vet care & will find qualified adopters for these animals, all you need to do
is supply the love & care! Your help will literally mean the difference between life & death for one of
these families. Our foster parents come from all walks of life - single people, families, students and
seniors, some with pets of their own and others not.
Can you find room in your home & heart to help? We are looking for foster homes to take in any one of
the following families (NOTE: All foster cats are friendly):
RESCUED! ~* Mother & 4 kittens (3 weeks old) - left behind locked in an empty house when
their owners moved apartments. RESCUED! ~
* Mother & 2 kittens (2 weeks old - picture above) - left outside a municipal shelter during the night,
shelter is evacuating her. RESCUED! ~ Cloud had 8 babies and has been placed in a foster
home.
* Pregnant cat named Cloud (8 months old, due any day - picture above) - left outside a municipal
shelter during the night, shelter is evacuating her.

Milagra has been adopted! - Thank you!
Milagra was rescued just before her kittens were born. Shortly afterward, she was rushed to
the emergency vet clinic with a prolapsed uterus. For her overnight stay, the bill was $1,000. She
was then moved to our regular veterinary clinic, where we estimate the bill at a further $500.
Milagra recovered beautifully from her ordeal and has found a new home. All of her kittens were also adopted out.
Special thanks to everyone who donated to help Milagra! |
Destiny (Still in need of a home!)
Destiny was rescued from euthanasia at an over crowded shelter. It was thought at the time that she was pregnant. Her pregnancy turned out to be a grossly
enlarged kidney, which if had not been removed, would have
killed her.
After having emergency surgery, she returned home from the vet and was put on a special diet until she recovered. Now she is back on regular food and hoping to find a permanent home real soon!
For those of you who donated, we want to thank you and to
know that those donations saved her life twice over. Once
because we could board her and twice to pay for the
surgery, which we discovered she required. Destiny thanks
you. |
