Blessing

Have you ever watched a little kid discover her own shadow? She reaches for it, runs at it, tries to catch it unaware, tries over and over to get her hands around it. But her shadow is always there, close to her but elusive. Blessing is a bit like that shadow. She follows her foster dad everywhere. She wants to be close. He goes to the kitchen for a snack - Blessing is on his heels. He sits, Blessing sits. And then she sneakily rubs against his arm and purrs. He reaches for her and poof! The shadow is gone.!

It has taken us awhile to get to know Blessing, and we can only guess at the history that went before us. She came to us a young mom; now her kittens are grown and adopted out and Blessing spayed. We thought she was a talker. And oh, can Blessing talk! But it’s only when she is in new surroundings. Her crying can be hard to take, but it’s Blessing’s distress at being uprooted, her “Not again, universe!” With love and patience (and noise-cancelling earphones) it passes and Blessing is back to normal in a few weeks. She has a slight limp; we don’t know why, but it’s getting better!

We think Blessing is hard of hearing. That would explain both her shadow-behaviour and her settling-in vocalizing. Unable to rely on those phenomenal cat ears, Blessing is vulnerable. She needs to see foster dad, to keep track of what he’s up to. She doesn’t know how loud she cried, so she tries again. Blessing doesn’t like pets, and won’t be picked up. This isn’t unusual in a cat who missed the very short socialization window as a kitten. Blessing doesn’t trust people because maybe the people in her life before were never trustworthy!

You’re reading this because you’re a cat lover like us. And some of you are thinking, “I can help this little cat”. Because you can. An experienced cat owner, a quiet home without children, patience, kindness and consistency are all that Blessing needs. She’s come so far with the foster dad that she loves so dearly; now you can finish her socialization and be rewarded with a lifetime of Blessing’s bountiful love and devotion.
