Beautiful, brave Burton is looking for his forever home. Burton is a young neutered male who was dumped at a local feral cat colony. He was somebody’s pet once, maybe a birthday gift or a Christmas surprise, which is never a good start for a living, breathing, feeling animal.

Burton is a handsome boy, and was probably an adorable kitten with his black and white coat, his emerald eyes and pink nose. He was loved, cuddled, petted and showered with attention. But kittens grow up, and somehow his family lost interest in Burton, tired of him, moved or moved on.

How did they come to do the cruelest thing possible? It can be hard to find a new home for a cat, but it can be done, and there’s always rescues and shelters who will accept surrendered pets. But Burton’s family dumped him, and they chose a feral colony to do it. Feral cats in established colonies are intensely territorial; they fight for food, water, shelter, mates. They fight in fact for every inch of survival in their short lives.

Burton had no idea what had happened, where his humans went or why he was outside. He had no skills to survive on his own. Worse, he was rejected by the colony, and attacked repeatedly. If there was a silver lining, it was that this particular colony was a managed one. That means a group of caretakers visited daily, fed the cats, provided shelter and TNR to break the vicious cycle. They noticed poor beaten up Burton, knew he was a simple terrified house cat and rescued him from certain death.

Now in his foster home, sweet Burton is showing us the good boy he always was. He is smart, gentle and affectionate and craves human contact. Although his wounds have healed, he is sensitive about touch in certain taboo areas, like his back legs, undoubtedly a legacy of his harassment from the feral cats.

Burton wants so much to have a family again, this time for the rest of his life with people he can trust to care for him and love him. He has so much love to give in return.
