Scared, shivering, starving, the young mom cat finally arrived at a shelter, where at least the last hours of her life were spent in warmth and safety. Unable to sustain them all, her body had shunted all of her nourishment to her growing babies at the cost of her own health. As soon as they were born she gave up and passed on. No one came to look for the little mom cat; no one mourned. But the shelter staff resolved to do their very best for the little scraps of life that were her kittens, knowing in their hearts the prognosis was dim. Kittens without a mother’s milk usually do not survive, even with the most expert of care. Mademoiselle and her siblings were facing the fight of their lives.
A dedicated and experienced foster mom came forward, one who could take on the 2-hourly bottle feeds and the 24/7 newborn care. But one by one the frail little ones slipped away. Until only Mademoiselle was left. Mademoiselle, who clung tenaciously to the foster mom’s hand until every last drop of formula was finished, who learned to groom herself without a mom cat’s example, who followed her foster mom’s instructions until she got the hang of water bowls and litter boxes and all the surprising and wonderful things there are to learn.
Mademoiselle has only ever known love and tenderness. Now 8 weeks old and ready to go to her forever home, Mademoiselle is a ray of sunshine in her human’s lives. She adores people, and her somewhat larger canine companion. She is friendly, cuddly, playful, affectionate and smart. She is full of life, that life for which her mom and foster mom worked so hard.
PLEASE NOTE: She CANNOT be the only cat and must be adopted to a home with a cat under a year old.
